Vincent Ramos

2015 Summer Artist in Residence

Vincent Ramos

Vincent’s work explores the past and present through a multidisciplinary practice. Vincent received his BFA from Otis College of Art and Design and MFA from the California Institute of the Arts.  He has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including the Hammer’s biennial exhibition Made in L.A. In addition to exhibiting work, Vincent has curated several exhibitions. Vincent is also a recipient of the California Community Foundations Emerging Artist Fellowship.  Art Slant, L.A. Times, Art Forum, and X-Tra among other publications, have reviewed his work.

Vincent’s project at HOLA involves creating small performances with the youth, involving script-writing, set-building and costume-making.  Vincent has been able to bring in specialized artists (Carribean Fragoza, Alice Clements, Patricia Valencia, and Maggie Lomeli) to help with costumes, set-building, and the finer aspects of the project. The narratives he has helped the students construct are meant to be character-driven and fantasy-based; humorous and crazy — but don’t exclude serious themes.

Working with Los Angeles based artists, Carribean Fragoza, Maggie Lomeli, Alice Clements, Patricia Valencia, and Vincent Ramos, the students created a distinct body of work representative of their experiences as young people living within the urban environment of Los Angeles.
